In 2009, Northeast Health paid $1.25 million to nurses to settle a federal class-action lawsuit in which it was accused of conspiring with five other hospitals in the area to keep nurses’ pay low. Northeast Health denied any wrongdoing but agreed to provide deposition testimony and documents to be used in the action that continued against the other hospitals.

The settlement came just as St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany and St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy agreed to a merger with Northeast Health.

A million-dollar denial
